PHILLIES 5, METS 4

So much for the sweep. Nationally televised on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, we came up a bit short although put in a strong effort. After falling behind 4-0 (not Pelfrey's best outing) the Mets came back in the 6th with 4 runs, tying the game up. But in the bottom of the 7th, the usually reliable Pedro Feliciano gave up a pitch hit home run to another Pedro... Pedro Feliz. And that was all. The Mets almost rallied in the 9th but not this time. And with the Marlins winning, we're not in first anymore! Tonight we start a two-game series against the Cubs... our only trip to Wrigley all year.

WP: J.C. Romero (1-0)
LP: Pedro Feliciano (0-1)
S: Brad Lidge (3)

I'd make Wright a first baseman and finesse a trade to Cleveland for Al Rosen.

But generation-jumping fantasies aside, going into Philly at least a few of us probably would have been satisfied with two out of three. Pelfrey certainly earned a place in the rotation with his first two starts and yesterday was not as bad as a number of his efforts last year. I was disappointed to see him give up a second home run to the same player - especially with two on - but Utley - duh - can be a very tough out.
