CUBS 8, METS 1
Ugh. Second disgusting loss to the Cubs in a row. Today's game was much like yesterday's. Like Maine, Nelson Figueroa did not pitch badly. He was just outdone by Chicago's Ted Lilly. Lilly - who had been struggling all year - ruled over the Met lineup. Most frustrating part? 4th inning. Mets load the bases. Delgado and Easley pop out. Mets don't score. That must have disheartened the team because in the bottom of the 4th, the Cubbies scored three against Figgy. He left the game down 3-1, and then our wonderful bullpen took over. I'm being a little sarcastic there. Joe Smith allowed one run, which was annoying but forgivable. What was unforgivable was Jorge Sosa surrendering a GRAND SLAM to Ronny Cedeno. Not Ramirez, not Lee, not the injured Soriano - but Ronny Cedeno. Sigh. Sosa is doing nothing for this team and I'm not one to demand heads but I think he needs to go. Next stop for the Mets is a trip to Washington D.C. to play in the brand new Nationals Park. Hopefully we can beat them up like we did last week at Shea. One thing to be happy about - we won't have to face John Lannan who pitched so well against the Mets last week. Lannan pitched seven shutout innings against the Braves today. This kid is going to be something special.
WP: Ted Lilly (1-3)
LP: Nelson Figueroa (1-1)

these past two days-absolutely pathetic.

Even Billy Wagner can falter, as we saw last year, but he's off to a good start. The others - well, no Mariano or Joba. But then we don't have John Sterling bellowing "It is high, it is far......See ya!" followed by wordplay fun with the batter's name. (No, I don't listen to Yankee games, but Newsradio 88 plays clips in its sports reports.)
